CO2RE Intima Vaginal Rejuvenation

Vaginal Rejuvenation

Vaginal atrophy can occur through the natural aging process, by childbirth and as a result of some cancer treatments. As a result the vaginal wall thins, and natural elasticity and lubrication is reduced. Patients dealing with vaginal atrophy, also referred to as a atrophic vaginitis, experience some or all of the following symptoms:

  • Dryness

  • Itching

  • Burning

  • Vaginal tissue tightness or looseness

  • Pain with intercourse

  • Lack of sexual desire

  • Stress urinary incontinence

The CO2RE Intima treatment finally represents an answer to many problems that women have been told over the years, by their physicians, are just "things that happen as we age.” Our bodies do go through natural changes as we age, and that can lead to reduced sexual satisfaction, embarrassment, and even a loss of self esteem. Up until now there have been few treatment options.

The Procedure

CO2RE Intima is a quick, non-surgical in-office laser procedure that can restore vaginal health for women of all ages. It is ideal for menopausal and post menopausal women, post childbearing women, women who do not want to take hormone replacement, cancer survivors who are often unable to take conventional hormone replacement therapy, women wanting enhancement in sexual functioning and experience, and women who want to feel more confident about their intimate well-being.

Dr. Sasmor values a meaningful and reliable non-surgical treatment option for those changes related to normal aging and body processes. CO2RE Intima also offers maintenance options after having had a surgical procedure.

Our patients expect the best options for surgical and non-surgical procedures to help them regain vaginal tightness, vaginal health, sexual satisfaction and a more aesthetic youthful appearance.

All women experience these changes at some point, and the previous treatment offerings do not compare with CO2RE Intima in terms of risk, downtime, side effects, compliance, safety or results.

The new CO2RE Intima module from Syneron-Candela (Irvine, CA) provides physicians with a top-tier technology for non-invasive vaginal tissue remodeling that's both patient and user-friendly, meeting a growing need in the field of women's intimate health and wellness.

With the CO2RE Intima module, physicians can remodel and restore the tissue of the vaginal wall and vulva to improve the aesthetic appearance of women's external genitalia: including vulvar dystrophy (thinning) and dyschromia (changes in pigment).

Treatment can improve overall functional vaginal health, increase lubrication, decrease discomfort with intercourse and helps decrease urinary dribbling.

The scanner and pulse energy delivery of the CO2RE Intima laser is sophisticated and accurate. The hand piece of the CO2RE is lightweight, making it more comfortable for our patients, and the CO2RE has additional energy delivery modes enabling us to efficiently treat a wider group of patient needs (the more severely symptomatic women as well as the more typically symptomatic ones). The CO2RE Intima allows us to more aggressively deliver that energy into different depths of tissue in the same pulse. This is beneficial for postpartum women who have Vaginal Relaxation Syndrome (VRS) symptoms as well as post-menopausal women with more severe symptoms of Vulvovaginal Atrophy (VVA) and Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) as seen in the Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause .

Dr. Sasmor utilizes the versatile CO2RE fractional CO2 laser to promote a natural regeneration process similar to laser treatments performed on delicate facial tissue. The CO2RE laser vaginal treatments are non-surgical, require only a numbing cream applied to the external labia, no anesthesia, very minimal recovery time, and are virtually pain-free. The procedure treats both the external vulva area and the internal vaginal area.

This type of laser vaginal treatment has been shown to cause immediate improvement in symptoms of vaginal atrophy, poor lubrication and improvement in sexual desire and function with as few as three treatments. CO2RE laser vaginal treatments will be performed in the privacy of our office and take less than 20 minutes per treatment.

Results

Many CO2RE Intima patients feel and see improvement after the first treatment, although the procedure calls for three treatments spaced four weeks apart for optimal results. After the third treatment, patients should expect an annual maintenance treatment to sustain results.

With CO2RE Intima, there is virtually no downtime. Patients can return to normal activities right after the procedure, but should refrain from sexual activity and use of tampons for seven days.

Frequently Asked Questions

What issues are women concerned with?

Regardless of age, women can experience changes in vaginal wellness or appearance that can affect quality of life in unexpected ways, leading to unpleasant symptoms.

What is CO2RE Intima?

CO2RE Intima is a new, in-office, non-surgical treatment that uses CO2 laser energy to treat the symptoms women may be experiencing. CO2RE Intima is a medical laser that delivers controlled CO2 energy to the vaginal or vulva tissue – so cells make more collagen – improving skin tone, texture and appearance.

Has the CO2RE Intima been clinically studied?

Recent results from a hospital-based trial, evaluating vaginal rejuvenation laser treatment on premenopausal women, shows positive results and a high patient satisfaction rating for cosmetic improvement and enhancement in sexual functioning (1).

A multi-site study is currently ongoing in the USA to evaluate the laser treatment on postmenopausal women, who are experiencing gynecologic wellness issues, and is being conducted by Dr. Martin Garcia, a board- certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist specialist in women’s gynecological health, endocrinology and infertility at Garcia OB/GYN Associates in Florida, Dr. Julene Samuels, a board-certified Plastic Surgeon and Associate Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Louisville in Kentucky and Dr. Lori Warren, an Obstretrician/Gynecologist and Associate Professor of Gynecology at the University of Louisville in Kentucky.

I have read about other vaginal treatment; why is CO2RE Intima better or different?

CO2RE Intima is a module of the CO2RE device which treats all three areas of a women’s intimate needs (external, internal and introitus) and with sterile, single-use hand pieces, thereby assuring women of the results and hygiene they expect for treatments to their most intimate area. Additionally, CO2RE Intima utilizes a CO2 laser. CO2 lasers have been proven to remodel tissue with neoformation of collagen and elastic fibers in atrophic (thinned) skin (2).

CO2 technology also provides physicians with the ability to treat both superficial and deep skin layers simultaneously and with the precision control they need over the intensity, pattern and depth of ablation, which is very important for treatments to this intimate area.

Where can I have the CO2RE Intima treatment done?

CO2RE Intima is a quick, simple and safe procedure that can be done right in our office. The procedure is typically performed by an obstetrician/gynecologist, plastic surgeon, dermatologist or laser specialist.

What does the procedure feel like?

The in-office procedure is virtually painless, requires no anesthesia and typically takes around 15-20 minutes to treat both internally and externally.

Is the procedure safe? Are there risks to laser treatment, especially in the vaginal area?

The CO2RE device has FDA clearance for a range of gynecological and genitourinary indications. CO2RE Intima offers solutions for a range of intimate aesthetic procedures. Treatments are safe and effective with mild to no discomfort, and with little downtime.

As with all laser treatments, it is important to find an experienced healthcare professional whom you can trust.

How many treatments does it take?

Patients receive three in-office treatments that are spaced 4 weeks apart. Maintenance treatments once a year are recommended.

When will patients see results?

Most CO2RE Intima patients feel and see improvement after the very first treatment, although the procedure calls for three treatments.

How long does it last?

After the third treatment, patients should expect to come back annually for a maintenance treatment.

Are there any limitations after the procedure is done?

Patients can return to normal activities after the procedure, but should refrain from sexual activity and use of tampons for 7 days. Your physician will advise you on a post-procedure regimen that is right for you.

Can CO2RE Intima treat the dryness, itching and pain associated with aging, menopause and reduced estrogen levels?

CO2RE Intima can remodel vaginal connective tissue to restore vaginal health. Dr. Sasmor will deliver gentle laser energy to the vaginal wall that stimulates a healing response and enhances moisture levels in the vaginal canal. This results in remodeling of the tissue fibers, thereby also restoring flexibility and shape. The procedure delivers both immediate and long-lasting relief in a painless, non-surgical, proven treatment.

Can CO2RE Intima be used for Vaginal Laxity? Vaginal Relaxation Syndrome?

Loss of vaginal sensation and tone can be a side effect of vaginal childbirth and aging. Over time, the vaginal wall and the entrance to the vaginal canal (Introitus), both which contain collagen fibers, can stretch and lose vaginal tissue tone and elasticity. The CO2RE Intima laser treatment results in a remodeling of these tissue fibers, thereby restoring flexibility and shape.

Can CO2RE Intima be used for modifying the appearance of the vaginal area?

The CO2RE Intima laser treatment can remodel labial and vulvar tissue fibers, restoring flexibility and shape. The treatment can also address dyschromia and skin pigmentation resulting in improved skin texture and tone.
