Facial Fillers

As we age, our skin changes. Over time, the natural volume of youthful skin and subcutaneous tissue begins to diminish, allowing the skin to “sink down” allowing wrinkles and folds to form. Sometimes you will even notice a hollowness to your cheeks.  However, with injectable gel fillers, you don't have to just sit back and let it happen!

To improve facial volume and help reduce wrinkles, we use gel fillers made of hyaluronic acid (HAs)—a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration. These fillers will be injected under the skin in a variety of layers to instantly restore your skin's volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds, like your “smile lines” or “parentheses” (nasolabial folds—the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth).

We use the RHA Collection of fillers. This line offers a wide range of concentrations appropriately addressing multiple different areas and skin types to provide natural looking results.

Fillers provide a smooth, natural look and feel—so everyone will notice (but no one will know!) In fact, most observers notice you look younger, fresher, and more relaxed.

Immediate Results

With filler products the injection process takes only about 15-30 minutes and results are immediate. Plus, there's minimal recovery or downtime. So, you can step into our office for treatment and step right back into your life.

With all filler treatments results are immediate, there may be a small amount of swelling that will resolve in 5-7 days to reach your ultimate response. Most dermal filler results typically last about a year or perhaps slightly longer.  Some people metabolize the filler faster than others requiring touch-ups sooner. Since results may vary, be sure to discuss your expectations with your experienced provider.

Planning your Procedure

Before your treatment: Avoid any medications that can prolong bleeding, such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) like Motrin or Advil, for at least a week prior to treatment to reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site. Taking Arnica homeopathic tablets for several days before your treatment can also be helpful to reduce the risk of bruising.

When you arrive: We will ask about your medical history, including any allergies you may have or medications you may take.

The injector nurse will discuss your specific needs and wants and will assess your facial structure and volumes.  We will discuss the benefits of the different filler compositions depending on your specific needs.

Before the procedure: Although anesthesia is not required, we may use topical or injectable anesthesia to numb the treatment area first.

After the procedure

There is minimal recovery or downtime. Mild bruising can occur.

For the first 24 hours following treatment, you should avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure, and consumption of alcoholic beverages in order to help minimize the risks of temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the treatment sites. After the treatment, some temporary injection-related reactions may occur, including redness, pain, firmness, swelling, and bumps. Studies have shown that these are usually mild to moderate in nature and clear up on their own in 7 days or less. If you experience swelling at the injection site, you can apply an ice pack for a brief period.

Seeing results: You should see an immediate improvement in the treatment areas. Most patients need one treatment to achieve optimal volume and smoothing. And one treatment could smooth your lines and wrinkles and all facial volume for up to 1 year!  However, results may vary and correction lasts about a year. Supplemental “touch-up” treatments may be required to achieve and maintain optimal results.

One size does not fit all when it comes to filler treatment. A customized treatment plan is important for achieving the best results. Our providers will discuss with you all your options and base a treatment program on the best products to achieve your goals.
